Daccordi 50th Anniv Columbus SLX Ben Lawee Personal 60cm Racing Bike

Greetings vintage road bike riders and collectos.
I am making a very special Italian racking bike to be had to ebay bidders.
Its a 50th anniversary Daccardi SLX custom spec’d bike made for Ben Lawee.

NOTE0: I keep changing my mind about departing with this special bike mostly because I love riding it and feel like its a part of me now.  I raised the price from 3K to 4K on 10/7/17 since I dont want it to sell.  I do like showing it off which this posting achieves 🙂

Im making this bike to be had since I do not wish to risk damaging the mint condition or this historic frame.
The rides I have done were wonderful, never experienced a better ride !
I think it deserves an owner who can in point of fact appreciate its abilities and show it off in a nice place like CA, FL or Italy.

NOTE1: I have lowered price to $2999 and not include extra set of wheels, pedals, and new old stock tubular tires shown. This will also make the whole thing fit in the usual cycling box as the extra wheels would require an additional box and additional postage, but would be wlling to
provide to the buyer wanting both wheel sets.

NOTE2: In case you are seriously interested in this classic make your best offer that you are feeling is fair.  I would in point of fact like to see it go to the right new owner.

Ben is famous in road bike history since he worked with one of the most best Italian bike producers (Colnago, Masi) and created and imported Bertoni and Univega bikes to america from Italy.

I purchased this bike from a San Diego bike shop and I imagine he owner is the brother-in-law of the late Ben Lawee, the author of Bertoni (in addition to Italvega and Univega.)
With the success of Univega in the ’80’s, Ben went back to his love affair with all things Italian and “created” Bertoni (no, there is no little wizzened Italian named “Bertoni” with a torch in one hand, brazing rod in the other and a cigarette dangling from his lower lip.)
This bike is setup for both racing and training with Dura Ace components and wheels and a additional training set of Ultegra wheels for training.
Also included in this sale is several sets of vicoria competition kevlar tires for replacements at the mavic GP4 wheel set with the dura ace racing tubular wheels.
The tubular racing duraace wheels have victoria competition kevlar tires.
The dura ace racing wheels are build with a dura ace hyperglide 11 to 26 cassette

Included in this auction:
– Daccordi bike currently setup with Ultegra clincher training wheels
– Set of tubular Victoria Mavic Dura Ace racing wheels
– 3 new spare Victoria tubular tires with two rolls of rim tape
– note that frame pump show in one of pictures is no longer to be had thus not included
– cateye cycle computer is included
– dura ace pedals are also included as shown
NOTE: I can lower price to $2999 and not include extra set of wheels, pedals, and new old stock tubular tires shown.  This will also make the whole thing fit in the usual cycling box as the extra wheels would require an additional box.

I purchased this bike from a San Diego bike shop and I imagine he owner is the brother-in-law of the late Ben Lawee, the author of Bertoni (in addition to Italvega and Univega.)

The Dacorrdi company started in 1937 with Giuseppe Daccordi and a partner. The start of World War II required suspending their business but they were ready to re-start after the war ended. All through the 1960s son Luigi joined his father in the business.

In the ’80’s no less than one top echelon Euro Pro team were on Daccordis.

With the success of Univega in the ’80’s, Ben went back to his love affair with all things Italian and “created” Bertoni (no, there is no little wizzened Italian named “Bertoni” with a torch in one hand, brazing rod in the other and a cigarette dangling from his lower lip.)

This bike is Ben’s personal model (Ben Lawree) and has his name at the main tube near the seat. As such, its a part of road bike history and ofcourse only the most efficient for some of the best bike builders.  RIP Ben.

This SLX Daccordi used to be for my part “specced” by Ben, primarily the paint, the pantographing, seat lug and bottom bracket shell.
The original built up with NOS Campy Record C and then up to date with Dura Ace for a more brand new riding experience.

Over the course of the Bertoni “brand”, frames were made by Bianchi (some of the Columbus Cromor and SL “workmanlike” models), some by Rossin, and the top of the line SLX and TSX models by Daccordi.

The finish work is simply better than most Italian frames of the same era, and easily the match of the most efficient from De Rosa or Colnago.

Bottom line, that Daccordi is as good as anything in the market from that era and probably better than most.
Personal model spec’d and built for Ben Lawee is a part of cycling history and a museum quality display and riding pleasure.

I have created the below webpage as a tribute to Ben Lawree and this bike as a part of cycling history:
