This is a classic 1977 Schwinn Le Tour II road bike. This bike is in excellent condition and was once only used lightly. This is one of Schwinn’s handmade Japanese-made models with outstanding craftsmanship. Beautifilly crafted lugged steel frame with quality components. The gorgeous candy red paint finish is stunning. This can be a very usable yet timeless classic bike utilizing pristine craftsmanship unseen on most brand new day bicycles.
The bike was once just professionally refurbished by a mechanic who makes a speciality of vintage road bikes – All components were got rid of and thoroughly cleaned for the rebuild. Over 10 hours of time spent on the restoration. Up to date CST Super HP gum wall tires (for period correct appearance), new inner tubes, new chain, new Brooks-inspired riveted synthetic leather saddle, new cables/housings and fresh cork handlebar tape. Original “Le Tour” alloy cranks, Araya chromed wheels with quick release hubs and randonneur style alloy handlebars. The lugged “X-Tra Lite” steel frame is lightweight and solid. Original kickstand isn’t shown in the pics but is included. Rides like an old Cadillac and handles like a dream. Steel is real!
54cm (from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube)
57cm (top tube center-to-center)
31″ (top tube stand over height)
Based on the above geometry, the bike would be ideal for most cyclists 5’3″-5’8″ in height.
The original paint is vibrant showing no signs of fading or oxidization but does have a couple of cosmetic abrasion/marks and minor nicks carefully filled in with enamel for aesthetics and protection. The frame is structurally sound with no bends, fractures or dents.
Don’t make the mistake of shopping for a neglected vintage road bike that needs “some work” or “TLC” only to find out that you want to spend $200 – $500 or more to get it roadworthy again. This one has been professionally serviced and is able to go. This fully reconditioned bike is able to hit the roads for decades to come. These Japanese-made Schwinn road bikes are very desirable and will only continue to increase in value with proper care.
